Gabriele Beger
Prof. Dr. Gabriele Beger is Director of the State and University Library of Hamburg, President of the German Society for Information Science and Information Practice (DGI), and Chairwoman of the German Library Association (DBV). In recent years, Gabriele Beger has actively contributed to the idea of Open Access in several ways: she has taken over Hamburg University Press as an Open Access publisher, she has founded and presides the German Academic Publishers Association (GAP), the aim of which it is to "actively and sustainably foster free access to quality-controlled scientific information in the sense of the Open Access concept" (http://www.gap-portal.de/).
Gabriele Beger regards higher education institutions and libraries as responsible for clarifying the as yet relatively little known topic of Open Access. What is Open Access, and what can it achieve for elearning? Which services can libraries provide? How do classical publishers and Open Access publishers relate to one another? These questions mark the context in which Professor Beger will address the topic of Open Access.
